Mission

The mission of Special Olympics Pennsylvania is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes, and the community.

Winter Games

Hundreds of athletes, coaches, families, and friends representing all corners of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware participate in Special Olympics Pennsylvania's annual WInter Games at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Seven Springs, PA.

During the course of the event, athletes and coaches particiapte in three days of exciting winter sports- competing in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. In addition, a few atheletes participated in a snowboarding demonstration. Snowboarding is an emerging winter sport of Special Olympics PA, but is not yet available for competition at the State Level.

Weeks of hard work and dedication in traning is rewarded as athletes are cheered on and supported during competition by more than 1,000 enthusaistic volunteers. This event requires volunteers from around the state to serve as officials, athlete escorts, award presenters, and in various other ways.

Interested in Volunteering?

Volunteers are the backbone of Specal Olympics Pennsylvania. Without the dedication of thousands of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware citizens, including Hidden Valley homeowners, Special Olympics Pennsylvania would struggle to exist. The time, energy and enthusiasm of volunteers fuel the movement and make the athletes' dreams a reality.

Donation Impact

The Hidden Valley Mountain Metric team has committed themselves to Special Olympics Pennsylvania through monetary donations and volunteerism. For the past two years, Special Olympics Pennsylvania Nordic has been the recipient of donations from the proceeds of the event.

These donations have helped the snow sport athletes compete in the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Winter Games, a 3-day event held at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. In 2017, the monies helped purchase team jackets for the cross-country ski and snowshoe team of the Somerset County Chapter. Several pairs of new skis, snowshoes, and race equipment were also purchased. In 2018, the monies were used to host a snowshoe invitational at Seven Springs Mountain Resort's Golf Course, the same course used for the Winter Games. Athletes from nearby counties participated in the one day event.

While monetary donations have been extremely helpful for the Special Olympics Pennsylvania organization, the volunteerism from Hidden Valley's homeowners has been priceless.  The volunteers have provided essential help in running the events at both the Snowshoe Invitational and the Winter Games.
